Your job in a nutshell
As a Tech Lead / Staff Engineer, you are the technical sparring partner for multiple development teams within a domain. You combine deep technical expertise with natural leadership and help teams make the right decisions around architecture, engineering practices, and software development.
-
What are we doing it for?
You will be part of the Tech Lead team supporting the E-commerce, Customer, and Assortment domains. While each Tech Lead has a specific area of focus, together you form one team with a shared mission: connecting business objectives, technology strategy, and execution.

Your new team
Jumbo's ambition is to be the most customer-centric retailer. Achieving this requires teams that not only work independently but also pursue the same business and technology goals. As a Tech Lead / Staff Engineer, you play a key role in making this happen. You help teams understand priorities, bring structure to complex technical challenges, and create alignment between business, product, and engineering. In addition, you contribute to domain- and department-wide technical improvements in areas such as observability, incident management, SLIs/SLOs, and emerging developments in software engineering.
-
Who do you work with?
You will work closely with Domain Engineering Managers, Product Managers, Engineering Leads, Product Owners, Domain & Competence Architects, Software Engineers, and fellow Tech Leads.
As a Tech Lead / Staff Engineer, you help multiple teams within your domain make the right technical decisions and work towards shared objectives. You bring structure to complex challenges, create alignment between teams, and ensure that architecture, engineering, and business goals remain connected.
You support teams in evolving and simplifying architectures, guide technical decision-making, and help engineers document key decisions through practices such as Architectural Decision Records (ADRs). You also facilitate workshops on topics such as Event Storming, Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Team Topologies, and socio-technical systems to help teams gain direction and clarity.
You play an important role in improving engineering practices, coaching engineers, and fostering innovation. You explore new technologies, support the design of future architectures, and contribute to department-wide initiatives in areas such as observability, SLIs/SLOs, and AI-assisted software development.
Your impact is not defined by building every solution yourself, but by creating direction, connecting teams, and helping others make better technical decisions.
